Tolnaftate

A synthetic topical antifungal agent used to treat superficial dermatophyte infections, including tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis. Tolnaftate inhibits fungal squalene epoxidase, interfering with ergosterol biosynthesis and disrupting fungal cell membrane function. It is active against various dermatophytes, including Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, and Microsporum species, but has limited activity against Candida species. Tolnaftate is available in creams, powders, sprays, and solutions. Systemic absorption following topical application is minimal, and adverse effects are generally limited to local irritation or hypersensitivity reactions
