Linagliptin
An orally administered antidiabetic drug used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Linagliptin selectively inhibits DPP-4, preventing the rapid degradation of incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP. This enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release, reducing blood glucose concentrations with a low intrinsic risk of hypoglycemia. Unlike many other DPP-4 inhibitors, linagliptin is eliminated predominantly through nonrenal pathways and generally does not require dose adjustment in patients with renal impairment
